The Labour Party (LP) faces deepening crisis as its caretaker committee opens a probe into former chairman Julius Abure. Caretaker chair Nenadi Usman announced the investigation during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday. She accused Abure of corruption, misusing party funds, and engaging in anti-party activities after his removal. Usman said Abure still falsely presents himself as national chairman, despite being removed by the party’s executive council.
She accused him of running the party like a personal business for selfish interests.
“To address these issues, we set up a disciplinary panel,” Usman said.
Senator Ireti Kingibe leads the panel. Peter Ameh serves as the panel’s secretary. They must investigate and recommend actions within 21 days. Abure has been summoned to answer several petitions before the panel.
